The benefits and successes attributed to the Internet far exceed what anyone could have imagined when the Internet first was developed in the 1960’s. Amidst all the progress there are examples of rural communities taking advantage of Internet connectivity to get better health benefits, get access to online educational opportunities, and thrive selling their local products. With that said, there has also been the advent of the digital divide between those who can access the internet and the under privileged communities that have no access to the Internet. The Wireless for Communities (W4C) programme is a small effort to bridge this gap by using low cost Wi-Fi technologies to provide access to rural villages and also offering local content that can be used for the benefit of the community. Some of the success stories we have collected are shared here to gauge the impact of Internet connectivity on the rural villages of Pakistan.
